Laverne Lewis Britt, Emeritous Board of Directors

LaVerne Lewis Britt is a descendant of Hiram Wilson. Henry Wilson was her paternal great grandfather. Henry’s daughter Lottie Wilson Bibbs was her grandmother. Lottie’s son Eugene Lewis is LaVerne’s father. La Verne is a retired educator who earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with high school and Elementary Certification also a Master of Education with certification in guidance and counseling, both from Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio. She is also a Licensed Professional counselor in the State of Texas. LaVerne retired from NorthSide ISD as a teacher and guidance counselor. She also served as coordinator of elementary programs and NISD continuing education as well as with San Antonio Urban Ministries as Training Lodge Instructional Coordinator for their Fairweather Lodges.

Community involvement included President of NorthSide Independent Teachers Association, President of the San Antonio Ethnic Art Society, Board of Directors of the San Antonio Mental Health Association, Distinguished Award service recipient for outstanding service to the S A Mental Health Association. She also received the Human Relations award from TSTA for outstanding contributions in promoting Human Relations.

LaVerne is a member of Phi Delta Kappa and a member and Lector at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She is the mother of three and grandmother of 10. LaVerne previously chaired the Wilson Family Reunion Historical Committee and spearheaded the Grant Preservation Acquisition Project for the Wilson Durham Chandler Pottery site excavation as well as the incorporation of the HJ Wilson Historical Foundation, DBA as Wilson Pottery Foundation.
